The first groundwork has started on TAG Farnborough's $18 million, 4,000-square-meter, wing-shaped, operations/passenger terminal at the Hampshire, UK airport. "The building which will also be TAG's administrative center, will be a powerful form that will evoke a sense of flight and contribute to the whole experience," says designer, Reid Architecture.
Reid was responsible for Farnborough's award winning waveform hangar and ATC tower designs, and says that the terminal, which is organized on three levels, will form a landmark headquarters. On the top floor Reid has created a 'theatre of aviation'a grandstand with views of the airport's rampwhile maintaining the privacy demanded by TAG's customers.
According to the designer, "TAG's customer experience will be one of comfort, quality and excellence, even though most passengers will never enter the building, but be driven directly to their waiting aircraft."
Work is due to be completed in 12 months, and will become operational by first quarter 2006.
